Fair La Cala de Mijas 2018
For those who like local festivities, Costa del Sol has countless events during the summer months. One of them is the fair of La Cala de Mijas 2018, celebrated in the small fishing village of La Cala, just 2 minutes drive from Chaparral Golf Club.
La Cala de Mijas is a town of 2,000 inhabitants belonging to the municipality of Mijas (Málaga). It was an agricultural and fishing area until the beginning of the tourist boom in the 1960´s. Along the promenade you find bars and restaurants, nice beach with a sea bed with a great biodiversity.
Mijas is one of the largest municipalities on Costa del Sol and encompasses the popular white village Mijas in the mountains and La Cala de Mijas and Las Lagunas on the coast. Due to this particularity, a large number of festivities and events are celebrated in the three towns throughout the year, making it an ideal destination for your family vacation or golf holiday on Costa del Sol.
The popular ”Feria de la Cala” begins on Tuesday 24th of July and ends on Sunday 29. During six days of an extensive program of cultural, sports, musical and festive activities, you can enjoy concerts, children’s parties, costume contest, horse and carriage ride, flamenco singing contest and fishing contest on the beaches of La Cala. First activity on the program is a parade “Cabalgata de Gigantes y Cabezudos” that goes through the main streets of La Cala, accompanied by music bands, majorettes and the queen of the fair. Followed by the inauguration of the Exhibition Center, the lighting of the fair entrance and the inauguration of the Municipal booth. The closure of the six days of celebration and fun takes place on the 29th with a pyrotechnic show.
The town hall is always trying to present a variety of activities for all kind of public and for the first time this year, as a part of the program, the fair will host a new competition of “improvement of facades, porches, balconies and store showcases”. The idea is to involve the center of the town as well in the atmosphere of festivities
” We want the entire Cala core to feel involved in these much-awaited festivity”, says Tamara Vera, from the city hall.
