September, the time to get to know the traditions beyond Costa del Sol!

Autumn is getting closer and the month of September is the perfect time to get to know more about the traditions and customs of the interior of Malaga.

During this time of the year, Malaga and its villages offers several fairs and gastronomic events with great opportunities to discover the charming Andalusian villages, their customs and people, all based on traditional cuisine and the local seasonal products.

Festival of the Malagueña Goat in Casabermeja (September 14 – 16)
In Casabermeja, the Festival of the Malagueña Goat is celebrated; whose main protagonist is the goat of Malaga, a native breed of the province. Cheese making workshops, donkey rides, honey tastings, tapas contest, circular bus for visiting the participating monuments and restaurants, are just some of the activities you may enjoy.

The Borge Raisin Day (September 16)
The raisin is a typical product of the interior of Malaga. In the Axarquía region and unlike other areas, the ancient natural drying process of the raisin in the sun still continues, which gives the raisin a unique flavour. El Borge is the most important municipality in Spain in producing Muscat grapes, and every year they celebrate their Raisin Day. During this day there are demonstrations of the tasks that are carried out during its elaboration and tastings, not only of raisins, but also of wine and sausages typical of the area.

Rincon de la Victoria Fair (September 21 – 23)
During this fair, Rincon de la Victoria says goodbye to summer and pays tribute to the most famous product of its cuisine on the Victorian Anchovy Day. Tastings of anchovy and other typical local products are held throughout the weekend, as well as competitions, exhibitions and performances. The perfect opportunity to savour the local seafood cuisine.

Artisan Cheese Fair in Teba (September 29 and 30)
This is the place to be if you´re a cheese lover! In this municipality of the Guadalteba Valley, the main cheese producers from Spain and, mainly, from Andalusia meet. Idiazabal, Tetilla, Torta del Casar or Mahón-Menorca, are some of the brands presented. You can also enjoy the sweets contest that the neighbors produce, as well as a wide range of recreational, cultural and gastronomic activities.

Almond Day in Almogía (September 30)
During the Almond Day you´ll get to know more about the almond and its collection process. In addition, other native products are presented with tastings of traditional dishes such as chanfaina, desserts with almonds and Muscat wine. The local restaurants provide special dishes prepared for the occasion.
You´ll will also have the opportunity to see the dance of the region Verdiales, in typical Almogía style. Animation workshops for the little ones and staging of crafts that are related to almonds are other activities that will accompany the day.
