Easter Week in Malaga
Chaparral Golf Club hopes that you will have time to enjoy a few days of relaxation with your family and friends during one of the most important holidays of the year, the Spanish “Semana Santa” (the Holy Week, Easter).
Semana Santa is an important religious celebration in Andalusia, Spain. It commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and involves a series of processions and rituals in which religious brotherhoods and confraternities participate.
During the Holy Week the streets are filled with processions in Andalusia, in which the brotherhoods carry religious images. The processions take place in a solemn and penitential atmosphere, accompanied by religious music.
For Andalusians, the Holy Week is an important occasion to show their devotion and religious faith, and many people actively participate in the processions and religious activities. Furthermore, Easter in Andalusia is also a perfect occasion to enjoy the typical gastronomy of the region, such as the traditional sweets like torrijas or pestiños (fritters).
In short, it is the perfect occasion to travel and enjoy the traditions and culture of the country!
Ideas for celebrating Easter!
If you have decided to travel to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, the Costa del Sol, you will be in luck thanks to the spectacular weather that is expected during the days of Easter.
Thanks to the great cultural, gastronomic and leisure offer that the capital of Malaga has to offer, we are sure you won’t be short of plans to enjoy, but we want to help you by showing you the unmissable dates for the next few days;
– Wednesday; Holy Wednesday is synonymous with tradition. In fact, some of the traditions that have made Malaga’s Holy Week famous come together on this day. On this day the oldest brotherhood in the city, La Sangre, and the latest to join; the Hermandad de la Mediadora de la Salvación, will take to the streets.
– Thursday; There are several museums to visit during the week. In the morning you can visit, for example, the Automobile Museum, in the building of the Antigua Tabacalera. This museum houses a collection of hundreds of cars from all eras, which the guide will talk to you about, show you how they work or even let you ride in them. The museum also contains a collection of Haute Couture fashion that will complement your visit. I highly recommend it. Afterwards you can stroll along the promenade back to the centre.
– Friday; If you haven’t already done so, you will have to try the « cascarúo ». We are talking about the lemons that are sold in street stalls, with a very thick peel, which after being peeled leaves the white part visible next to the pulp. Now all you have to do is add a little salt and enjoy!
– Saturday; You can’t leave Malaga without seeing the Gibralfaro Castle, climbing the stairs to the viewpoint and taking a picture of the harbour and the city of Malaga. Afterwards you can stroll along the Paseo de Reding and see its marvellous malls, for example the Gran Hotel Miramar (recently refurbished, and inaugurated in 1926 by Alfonso XIII as the Hotel Príncipe de Asturias) and return along the Paseo Marítimo de la Playa de la Malagueta. Also, if you get hungry after the walk, you can try some delicious torrijas, a typical Easter sweet.
Sunday; The day on which many will return home with their batteries recharged after a few days of disconnection, relaxation and enjoyment of the Costa del Sol. We recommend you to visit some of the famous terraces of Malaga as a farewell, the most emblematic are, for example; AC Malaga Palacio with beautiful views of the “Pier One” of Malaga. The Chinitas Urban Hostel with stunning views of the cathedral of Malaga. And finally, the Hotel Molina Lario, on the famous Calle Larios in Malaga. Among its drinks, it has included a varied cocktail menu and a gastronomic proposal by the renowned chef Marcos Granados.
On the other hand, just a few minutes from the capital you will find one of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia, the town of Mijas. We share with you the complete cultural agenda with the schedules of the processions, concerts, photographic competitions and many more activities.
And of course, if during these days you want to disconnect and practice sport, just 20 minutes from Malaga airport, you will discover one of the best golfing experiences on the Costa del Sol next to the Mediterranean Sea, Chaparral Golf Club.
