The Best Things To Do In Mijas

Chaparral Golf is located in the municipality of Mijas, on the Costa del Sol, and is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Andalusia, a village nestled in the mountains with the typical charm of the Andalusian white villages.

At the foot of our golf course you´ll encounter one of the most picturesque sceneries of Andalusia, a true postcard image of endless white houses ascending the slopes of the Sierra de Mijas, in contrast with the intense green of our pine forest.

Mijas is divided in three urban centers; Mijas Pueblo, located at the foot of the Sierra de Mijas, at 430 m above sea level, Las Lagunas (the most modern part of the municipality) adjacent to Fuengirola, and La Cala, located on the seashore, with more than 12 km of beautiful beaches.

Mijas Pueblo attracts both national and international tourists  for its beauty and great heritage value. For the incredible views, its typical traditional Andalusian streets full of flowers and for its famous donkeys, which by the way may take you around to discover every corner of this beautiful white village.

The labyrinth of narrow and cobbled streets, adorned with hundreds of flowers and the color of the pots on their balconies, is an image you´ll remember forever.

The must-visits

You can’t leave Mijas without visiting the church named Inmaculada Concepción in the center of town. Built in the 16th century on the remains of an old Arab mosque which Mudejar tower was used as a bell tower. This architectural adaptation is very similar to the one in La Giralda in Seville.

The Church has three chambers separated by semicircular arches supported on tuscany columns, and two side chapels under which there are burial crypts. The chapels also preserves eight wonderful paintings about the Apostles dating from the Baroque period.

From the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña and the Mirador del Compás you may enjoy one of the best views of the Costa del sol.

If you are a lover of medieval times, you should visit the castle “Castillo de las Murallas”, walk through its gardens and visit the walls of the old castle from the 15th century, declared  Property of Cultural Interest in 1985.

Finally, if you are interested in cultural traditions, you must visit the museum “La Casa Museo”, which houses a wide sample of the traditional and ancestral trades that were carried out in Mijas, as well as the recreations of a traditional house, a wine cellar and two oil mills.

And the famous Plaza de Toros, with an appearance like another white town house but with many years of history, since it was built in 1900 by the request of the town’s own residents. The square´s oval shape makes it a unique bullring in Spain.

Without a doubt, you will find the perfect mix in Mijas; culture, gastronomy, sport and healthy life. Thanks to its precious monumental resources and its six wonderful golf clubs, you will find the perfect variety to enjoy your best days.
