Happy Christmas 2022
The last month of the year is here, which means that one of the most joyful holidays of the year is right around the corner; Christmas time!!! As usual on this festivity, the houses and streets of all Spain are illuminated and decorated with great enthusiasm, as well as Christmas trees and nativity scenes.
Many places have become very attractive tourist destinations due to their Christmas lights and markets.
For years, cities like Vigo, Madrid or Malaga have become the favorite destinations for national and international tourists who decide to travel at this time of year.
In the past, you had to travel to central or northern Europe to enjoy the classic Christmas markets, but today it has also become a tradition in Spain, and we can enjoy locally all the “typical” Christmas parties and decorations. The smell of roasted chestnuts will fill the air and Spanish ”Turrón” and Panettone are the stars of the gastronomic establishments. In addition, the holiday brings the famous Christmas markets, perfect for a moment with family, partner or friends.
Wooden cottages, colored lights, smells that will bring back childhood memories and, of course, lots and lots of Christmas decoration. No one can deny that this time of the year has a special charm.
In Madrid, the capital of Spain, one of the largest Christmas markets in the country is organized in its main square, made up of more than 100 stalls dedicated to the sale of traditional Christmas products. The most demanded products are the nativity scenes, toys and fun items. The Plaza Mayor market will remain open to the public from November 25 to December 31.The main monuments of the capital will be illuminated especially for the holisday, resulting in a perfect Christmas.
The most illuminated city in Spain during Christmas is Vigo, in Galicia. The capital of Vigo will have more than 350 illuminated streets and its 4 Christmas icons; the giant Christmas tree, the gift box, the giant Christmas ball and the snowman. In addition, locals and national tourists will be able to enjoy Christmas program for the whole family; Christmas markets, giant ferry wheel and attractions.
The capital of the Andalusian sun, Malaga has become the most famous city at Christmas in the entire Andalusian territory thanks to its fantastic light show on Calle Larios and its Christmas market.
Malaga turns on its Christmas lights
Calle Larios inaugurate the Christmas lighting with the 16 ‘Heavenly Angels’, an audiovisual show that will offer three daily performances: at 7:00 p.m., at 8:30 p.m. and at 9:00 p.m. and 22:00
A design inspired by London. The decoration chosen this year by the City Council is clearly inspired by Regent Street, a street in the British capital that, since 2016, has been decorated in December with angels called ‘The Spirit of Christmas’. It is said that the lighting is actually a tribute to the first Christmas lights that were installed on the street almost 70 years ago, in 1954.
The angels from Malaga, who keep the gaze of both locals and tourists will welcome everyone to the center until January 6th.
The Christmas is an addition to the leisure offer of the city during these dates. A walk through this market is a perfect plan for sunset, with the lights on and with the possibility of buying decorative craft items, books, seasonal foods and of course Christmas decorations.
Malaga has set up a booth for Their Majesties the Three Kings of the East where the little ones can deposit the letter with their best wishes for January 6. (In Spain the Three Wise Men are celebrated on this date and they bring presents for both young and old!)
