The month of February is the shortest but also the most “loved” month of the year!
For many of us it is the day to celebrate love and friendship, but do you know the origin of this special celebration?
This holiday dates back to the third century in Rome, where a priest named Valentine opposed the order of Emperor Claudius II, who decided to prohibit the celebration of marriages for young people. Valentine, opposed to the emperor’s decree, began to secretly celebrate marriages for young lovers (hence it became popular that Valentine is the patron saint of lovers). Upon finding out, Claudius II sentenced Valentine to death on February 14, 270, alleging disobedience and rebellion. Therefore, Valentine’s Day is commemorated every year on this date.
However, this festivity is not celebrated all over the world, in several countries in Europe, the day is celebrated under other customs, also related to love but that do not represent people in love.
